 The rankings, based on the number of page views, studied the top
1100 web sites in the world. Among female owned sites, Danni.com finished
first with a ranking of 602 and 25,149,000 page views. Martha Stewart’s site
finished in 880th place with 16,683,000 page views, and Oprah Winfrey came in
third with 13,487,000 views. Cindy Margolis’ site, meanwhile, only
achieved a ranking of 6817.In addition to this research, Danni Ashe also dropped a bombshell by revealing the results of a second study conducted by her own company and independently verified. By carefully studying web server logs, it was revealed that Ashe’s image had been downloaded from her own site over 840,000,000 times since the site’s 1995 launch (and this didn’t even take into account downloads from pirated sources and newsgroups). Confident of these results, Ashe wasted no time in proclaiming herself the Most Downloaded Woman in History and submitting a claim to the London-based Guinness Book of World Records. On August 17th, just two days before the debut of Margolis’ new CBS show, Guinness World Records announced that Ashe had officially been awarded the title of the Most Downloaded Woman in the World. The claim was not welcomed by Margolis or her people, as her new show had been heavily promoted on the strength of her claims to the Most Downloaded Woman title. The statistics showed that Ashe had been downloaded more than 240 million times in 1999 alone (with a total of 840 million). On her website, Margolis boasted of a total of 58 million downloads. A spokesman for Guinness Records said that the calculations were arrived at by taking the number of unique visitors and multiplying it by the average number of downloaded images. Two independent Internet authorities were also consulted to verify the methodology and data. “I knew all along I had more Internet fans than Cindy,” said Ashe, “but I was busy running my business and didn’t pay much attention to the hoopla. Watching her get the Guinness record was a wake-up call. It was time for me to stand up and for my fans to be counted!
