 Ashe took a vacation to the Bahamas and read both the
HTML Manual
of Style and Being Digital. Returning home, she invested in $8,000 worth of
computer equipment, sequestered herself in a room and wrote the code for her
website (Danni.com) within two weeks. The site officially launched in July
of 1995. The response was so large (up to a million hits per day) that she
was forced to become an expert in high-speed servers just so she could
keep the site running. She made back her $8,000 in a couple of weeks.The demand for Ashe was so high that her husband, Bert, left his lucrative job with Landmark Theaters to help her run the business. Working together, the couple would continue to dramatically increase the site’s success. In fact, it was revealed in late 2000 that images of Ashe had been downloaded over 1 billion times. This netted her even greater acclaim and even got her into the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Downloaded Person (much to the displeasure of model/actress Cindy Margolis). By 2003, Ashe had 50 full-time employees, an archive filled with hundreds of thousands of photos, and a 16,000 square foot Los Angeles studio. Her image is downloaded an average of 100,000 times per day, and her site uses more bandwidth than all of Central America. Oh, and she’s also a millionaire. She has been featured on the covers of such well-known publications as The Industry Standard, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal. The 5’2” beauty has also been given extensive exposure on radio and television, once being interviewed simultaneously by NBC, ABC, and CBS. Not surprisingly, she’s the only person in history to be on the cover of both The Wall Street Journal and Juggs magazine. Ashe considers herself a feminist and has stated that she is proud of running a website which portrays women and sex in a positive light. The content is entirely softcore, with no scenes of penetration (and no men, for that matter). In addition, many of the models featured on the site have since went on to run successful websites of their own. In this way, Danni has helped create a network of career-minded and empowered women. On November 1st, 2006, Penthouse Media Group Inc. announced that it had acquired all outstanding shares, assets and trademarks of Danni Ashe Inc. This mutually beneficial deal included sites such as Danni’s Hard Drive and Danni’s Hot Box. Despite the ownership change and multi-million dollar payout, Ashe is still directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the company. While many have hailed her as a business genius, Ashe has stated that her secret is really pretty simple. “I’ve shown up every day, worked hard at it, analyzed my problems and made the best decisions. It comes down to perseverance and dedication.
