In 1995, the Internet was still in its infancy. While many were just learning to navigate the Information Superhighway or simply dismissing it as a flash in the pan, an unknown former stripper named Danni Ashe would launch a website called Danni’s Hard Drive. It would go on to become one of the Internet’s early success stories, vaulting the busty creator into a significantly higher tax bracket.

In 1999, the year her popularity hit its peak, she was awarded the titles of both Top Downloaded Woman and Most Downloaded Woman. During that same year, the 34-year old beauty was once downloaded a staggering 70,000 times during a 24-hour period.

In addition to these honors, Margolis was also named Queen of the Internet from 1996 to 1999 by Yahoo! Internet Life magazine. And in January of 2000, she was once again awarded the title of Top Downloaded Female.

In 2000, she also had the distinction of being inducted into the prestigious Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Downloaded Person on the Internet. But while she basked in the glory of such an award, she was about to have a challenger for the crown. While Margolis had been enjoying mainstream success in television and film, Danni Ashe had been building up a massive following via her softcore subscription site that featured nude models and girl on girl action.

In fact, on August 8th of 2000, an independent study conducted by Alexa Research revealed that Ashe’s site, Danni.com, was easily the most popular female owned site. It was found to be twice as popular as Oprah Winfrey’s site and one-and-a-half times more popular than Martha Stewart’s website.
